- Ecoastronomy
- Food and a sense of responsibility to the search for pleasure, which we all have a right to enjoy..an attitude that combines a respect and interest in ecogastronomic culture with support for those battling to defend food and agricultural biodiversity around the world.
- Food Security
- all members of our society have access to enough food at all times. The food must be nutritious, sufficient, safe and environmentally sustainable
- Foodshed
- The term "foodshed," borrowed from the concept of a watershed, was coined as early as 1929 to describe the movement of food from where it is grown to the place where it is consumed. Recently, the term has been revived as a way of looking at and thinking about local, sustainable food systems and food security.
- Hundred Mile Diet
- A radius of one hundred miles is large enough to reach beyond a big city and small enough to feel local. This concept was started in Vancouver by Alisa Smith and James MacKinnon of Vancouver, whose website www.100milediet.org, book, and
blog in The Tyee have garnered world wide attention.
- Locavore
- A person who buys from local farmers' markets or grows or picks their own food within a 50 to 100 mile radius.
- Vancouver Island Diet
- Similar to the 100 mile diet, but inclusive of all growers and food producers on Vancouver Island.
